The year 2015 saw the opening of the Mall of Scandinavia, the largest shopping mall in the Nordic countries, in Solna, Sweden. The 300,000 square-meter and seven-floor project included the first purpose-built commercial IMAX theatre in the Nordic region, 22 restaurants, 230 shops, as well as a 100,000 square-meter garage with parking spots for around 4000 cars. The ventilation, piping and sprinkler systems for this massive project were designed by INCOORD Installations Coordinator AB, who have used MagiCAD since 1999. INCOORD specialises in MEP design and employs around 100 professionals in Danderyd, Sweden. Founded in 1983, INCOORD have over the years completed thousands of projects, including laboratories, hospitals, shopping centers, educational facilities, hotels and conference centers, offices and housing.

In designing building services for the Mall of Scandinavia project, INCOORD used MagiCAD Ventilation, MagiCAD Piping, MagiCAD Sprinkler Designer and MagiCAD System Designer modules on AutoCAD software.

“We have used MagiCAD for AutoCAD for a long time, and in our experience we save time throughout the design process with functions, such as integrated calculations, the ability to draw multiple pipes simultaneously, the automatic generation of Provisions for Voids, clash detection and bills of materials functions. All of these features automate time-consuming routine tasks and as such enhance productivity tremendously. The combined savings in large scale projects, such as the Mall of Scandinavia, are naturally enormous,” comments Project Manager Magnus Forshällen from INCOORD.

“One of the major benefits of MagiCAD is that the models store a lot more information on systems, temperatures, materials, heights and so on. The 3D product models are accurate and verified by the manufacturers.  Accurate data on each product is a necessity in order to balance the system correctly and to get the correct values and settings also for the installation personnel,” explains INCOORD’s CAD and BIM Specialist Magnus Johansson.

“The larger the project, the more important are the information sharing and collaboration aspects. MagiCAD models can be exported in IFC and BCFzip (BIM Collaboration) formats, coordinated efficiently with other disciplines, and in this particular project, they will also continue to serve in facility management and the later project stages,” concludes Magnus Johansson.
