The sustainability profile of Økern Portal in downtown Oslo stretches from energy-efficient heating and innovative sensor technology for energy savings to rooftop beehives and indoor biophilic design. This BREEAM-certified commercial building is built to be smart, efficient, and green. Økern Portal was completed in 2021, and over 80 000 square meters of sustainable building is now welcoming a variety of companies as well as the local community.
From planning and execution to operations, sustainability can extend through all the phases of a building project. By analysing and evaluating the impact of our choices at each phase we are able to optimise the materials, working methods, energy supply, emissions and much more.
To help with this challenging task, programmes such as Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment
Methodology (BREEAM) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) have created methods for
evaluating and certifying sustainable construction.
