MagiCAD 2020 Update Release 1

1. Add new system, size and status alternatives while drawing

[General] You can now add new sizes for ducts and pipes, and new system and status alternatives, while drawing instead of returning to project settings in order to add them.

2. Default values for sizing and installation of heating radiators

[Ventilation, Piping] Users can now set project-specific default values for the sizing and installation of heating radiators. This allows designers to enter correct values for each project from the start and eliminates the need to adjust MagiCAD default values during the design process.

3. Support for booster pumps in domestic water systems

[Piping] Booster pumps are needed if there is not enough water pressure to meet the required pressure and flow of domestic water devices. MagiCAD now supports booster pumps in domestic water systems and the pressure increase they produce is calculated with the dimensioning flow to the pump curve.

4. Improved calculation of system water volume

[Piping] You can define a volume for water radiators, other pipe devices, other pipe components, climate beams and fan coils in the device selection window. The volumes of individual components are then added to the system volume for a more accurate calculation of total water volume.

5. Set zone valve sizes for a pipe series

[Piping] Users can add separate zone valve sizes for a pipe series. In previous versions the same valve sizes were used for all valve types. Because zone valves often have a smaller diameter than other valves, designers had to then manually adjust the sizes of zone valves in a drawing.

6. More accurate fitting pressure drop calculations with DIN 1988:300 pipe sizing standard support

[Piping] The resistance coefficient (or zeta-value as in DIN 1988:300) of a fitting varies according to material, for example, plastic pipes have a smaller inner diameter. Because of this the pressure drops of fittings affect the overall pressure drop of the system.

MagiCAD now allows users to define the material of a pipe series according to the DIN 1988:300 pipe sizing standard. This produces more accurate pressure drop calculation results for fittings and, consequently, for the whole system. The calculation report includes a new option to see pressure data details, which include the zeta-value and the table where the value was retrieved.

7. Symbol and object for a piping component can be rotated separately

[Piping] Users can now rotate the 3D object and the symbol of a piping component separately of each other. This allows designers to adjust the direction of each one as needed.

In previous versions the 3D Rotate command would rotate an object and the related symbol simultaneously. However, this could lead to situations where the orientation of the symbol was wrong, and users were unable to correct it without affecting the 3D object.

8. Specify radiator height levels in plan drawings

[Piping] The new version allows users to add the height levels of radiators to plan drawings. This enables designers to communicate the exact position of radiators to contractors performing the radiator installation. The height levels can be added to dimension texts with two new variables: Bottom of part and Top of part.

9. New sprinkler properties available in several functions

[Sprinkler] The sprinkler Area of coverage and Connection size properties have been added to the Legend and Report functions. The sprinkler Response class property has been added to the Part properties, Part properties palette, COM, IFC-export, Dimension lines, Part property line, Object selection, Legend and Report functions.


10. New filter options for sound calculations

[Ventilation] Three new filter options, None (dB), C-Filter (dBC) and NR filter (NR), have been added for air terminal sound level calculation, whereas previously only the A-filter (dBA) option was available. You can also select whether to use 4 dB (10 sab) room attenuation for air terminals.

11. Layer handling tool for layouts

[Electrical] Layer handling allows users to define which systems or part types will be visible in layouts. Selecting displayed layers ensures that all required elements are plotted while unnecessary ones are hidden.

The layer handling function freezes all MagiCAD layers that are in the selected layout and unfreezes the selected ones. The function can also be used with xref drawings that include MagiCAD layers, making it easier to produce and manage drawings for plotting purposes.

12. Attenuation calculation

[Electrical] You can now run attenuation calculations for data networks. Create your data network using circuits and define higher and lower attenuation values to cables and devices. Attenuation calculation can then be run from any data host and it will produce the total attenuation of all devices and cables.

You can define warning limits for total attenuation and for the difference between lower and higher attenuation. Once the limits have been defined the calculation will give a warning for each device that is over the limits.

13. Improved management of user-created symbols

[Electrical] The creation and management of user-created symbols has been improved. You can now enter descriptions when creating electrical symbols. You can also edit symbol descriptions, rename symbols and even move symbols to different groups in the user symbol databases.

14. Extended character limit for variables

[Electrical] The character limit for the following variables in MagiCAD Electrical has been extended:

  • Switchboard code
  • Circuit number
  • User code
  • Cable code
  • Type name (of cables)
  • Description
  • Manufacturer
  • Product code
  • Light source (of luminaires)

15. Improved room type definitions in MagiCAD Room

[Room] Room type definitions in MagiCAD Room now have an option to define fixed air flow values. A fixed value can be defined for both supply and extract air flow and the values are not dependent on the area or volume of the room.

Air exchange rate definition has been removed from room type definition, simplifying the process of defining leakage air rates in a project. The leakage air rate is either defined for the whole building using a q50 or n50 value or by defining the air exchange rate of each room separately.

16. Object ID and Running index added to provisions for builderswork openings

[Ventilation, Piping, Electrical] Object ID and Running index are available for provisions for builderswork openings. Both features facilitate information sharing between designers and contractors and help to identify specific provisions.

17. Additional MagiCAD Create product properties available in MagiCAD

[Ventilation, Piping] The MagiCAD Create product properties Description, Manufacturer article number and Weight (Kg) can now be viewed and used in the Report, Legend, IFC and Text formats in MagiCAD.
