New features – MagiCAD 2023 UR-1 for Revit
Autodesk Revit compatibility
MagiCAD 2023 UR-1 for Revit is compatible with Revit 2023.1, as well as Revit 2019-2022. Please note that Revit 2023 is not supported.
When using Revit 2023, the software platform must be updated to Revit 2023.1 or later before installing MagiCAD 2023 UR-1 for Revit.
MagiCAD 2023 Update Release 1
1. Connection nodes between models for piping design
In large Revit projects, models are often divided into multiple smaller files to resolve performance issues. However, since MEP systems often run through many, or all, of the separate model files, this approach prevents running calculations for complete MEP systems.
Connection nodes between models allow you to link systems in separate model files for calculation purposes. There are two methods for adding the connection nodes, manual and automatic. In manual linking you can select the ducts that you want to link in each file. In automatic linking, a linked duct node is automatically imported into the same location in the corresponding model, and you can continue drawing the system from it.
Connection nodes between models were released in MagiCAD 2023 for the Ventilation module. The feature has now been added to the Piping module and it can be used for heating, cooling, domestic water, drainage, gas, and sprinkler systems.
2. Create generic manholes for drainage systems
MagiCAD 2023 UR-1 introduces the possibility to create generic manholes for drainage systems. This allows for a completely new level of accuracy in outdoor drainage design. The dimensions of the manhole, as well as the slope and offset of connecting pipes, can be freely defined, so you can easily create manholes to match the specific needs of different drainage networks.
Manholes are typically installed at the intersections of drainage pipes. To connect pipes to a generic manhole, simply draw them through the edge of the manhole and then update it. Pipe connections are created automatically and in the correct angle even for sloping pipes. In mixed systems, all the different systems can be connected to the manhole in the same way.
3. Effective and flexible dataset editing

Both the user experience and functionality of MagiCAD datasets has been updated. You can now easily select which properties to display in the dataset listing and many of the properties can be modified directly from the list view, which provides additional flexibility. Properties can be edited for single items or for multiple items simultaneously.
4. Improved clash checking

Collision control is an important element of interdisciplinary coordination in design projects. Multiple improvements to the MagiCAD Clash Detection tool help in tracking potential problem situations.
A new category has been created for insulation, which will enable better identification of collision types between soft and hard collisions. In case a project uses Revit phases or demolition markings, Clash Detection tool is now better able to identify if the collision is valid and also takes the chronological sequence of the project into account. Demolished objects are also identified in clearance analysis and will not produce false results for free height.
5. Faster access to commands while maintaining your parameters
MagiCAD and Autodesk Revit share several functions with similar names that perform similar tasks. This can create confusion when users want to use a MagiCAD function that has extended functionality, but accidentally launch a more limited Revit command that does not maintain MagiCAD parameters.
For example, the Revit Draw duct and Create similar functions do not include MagiCAD parameters and the toolbar or installation dialog that MagiCAD users would be expecting. To avoid confusion and secure modelling quality by maintaining parameters, you can now set overrides for selected functions and ensure that the MagiCAD function is always started for a specific task.
6. Set parameter inheritance when installing symbol assemblies
Symbol assemblies allow users to save repeated combinations from schematic drawings for later use instead of drawing them manually each time. The installation of symbol assemblies has now been streamlined for easier use. Parameter values are inherited by default only for the main symbol in the assembly and you can easily select whether to inherit them for other symbols as well.
7. Ensure sprinkler coverage of entire installation space
The array option for sprinkler installation has a new Suggest distances function that can be used to ensure that the entire installation space is covered by the individual sprinkler coverage areas. The function calculates the coverage area radius for an individual sprinkler head and then uses it to suggest an optimal array that covers the entire space in an efficient manner.
The same logic has also been implemented to smoke detector installation in MagiCAD Electrical.
8. Hide conduits and cable packets when crossing other elements
You can now hide conduits and cable packets in printout views when they are crossing other elements to create clear and easy-to-read drawings. You can freely select the points between which a segment will be hidden and use view filters to hide the same segment in other views.
The hidden segment is created using unions between the separated elements. To enable the use of unions for this task, MagiCAD no longer removes unions from conduit systems automatically when updating parameters, which means that you can also use different types of unions more freely for other tasks as well.
9. Optional tick marks in wire drawing
You can now select whether to show tick marks during wire drawing. Previously tick marks were always shown automatically. When tick marks are shown, they are displayed according to the selected wire type if conductor information is available in wire properties. Tick marks can also be switched off for all drawn wires for a clearer wire drawing view.
10. Set bend radius in Angle to Horizontal
You can now set a bend radius for cable tray bends in the Angle to horizontal tool to adjust the bends in more detail. The field for setting the bend radius is only available, if the currently selected vertical bend allows for bend radius adjustment. Otherwise, it is disabled.
11. Enhanced cable length calculation
Cable length calculation is normally started from the cable packet starting point. However, cable packets do not usually begin directly from the supplying panel of the circuit. Instead, there is a short amount of cable from the supply panel to the eventual cable packet starting point, for example, if the supplying panel is on a wall and the cable packet starts close to the ceiling. The orthogonal length of the cable segment between the panel and the cable packet starting point can now be included in final cable length calculations with a new option in project settings.
12. Improved Export/Import function for electrical networks
MagiCAD includes a function for exporting and importing electrical networks as an xml file. An exported xml file can be used to perform electrical calculations in a 3rd party software and after the calculations have been done, the file can be imported back into the MagiCAD project. Currently, this process is compatible with the Italian electrical calculation software Integra. Exported xml files can also be used to manually modify the values of the electrical network.
The Export/Import function has now been improved with possibilities to better define the contents of the xml file. You can define whether cables in the exported circuits use neutral conductors. You can also define the material and cross-sectional areas of neutral conductors and the cable type and insulation of separate PE cables. For protective devices, it is now possible to define and export the protective device description.
13. Improvements to Supports & Hangers module

You can now install anchor supports and hangers for horizontal and vertical segments. Anchors limit the movement of MEP segments and fix them to a spot. New transfer beams and columns can be used for MEP segments in large spaces where there are no suitable rooting elements for traditional supports and hangers. Finally, it is now possible to calculate multiple support and hanger instances as a batch and export the results, making it much easier to calculate and ensure the load safety of supporting systems.
