MagiCAD 2024 Update Release 1
1. Fast and effective editing functions for switchboard schematics
Electrical, Schematics
Switchboard schematics can be difficult to create and edit for large projects as you often need to jump between multiple individual sheets. New functions in switchboard schematics allow you to create and edit switchboard schematics for an entire model on a single sheet. This allows you to have a better understanding of the entire schematic while editing individual parts of it. When the schematic is ready, you can easily generate individual printout sheets with a new Create Printout function.
The editing of circuits on the schematic is also much faster. You can quickly move circuits around with a new Move Circuit function and all lines are moved together with the circuit. Together, the new functions make it much easier and faster to work with schematics even in complex projects.
2. New options for ELV system diagrams
Electrical, Schematics
You can now group devices in the model at the same time as they are grouped together in ELV (extra-low voltage) system diagrams. The created device groups are automatically linked to symbols in the schematic, which allows you to easily view and update the number of devices.
There is also a new option to divide devices to multiple lines in the schematic diagram in case there are too many to fit on a single line. This gives users much more control over the size of schematic drawings and makes it easier to fit them onto sheets.
3. Support for transformers
Electrical, Schematics
You can now add transformers to main riser diagrams and include them in the export and import of electrical networks. Transformers are defined in the dataset and you can set secondary voltage, impedance percentage and rated power values for them according to manufacturer specifications. Ready transformers can then be added to main riser diagrams with their symbol selected during the creation of the schematic.
Transformers are placed into the model with the Install Product feature. The installed transformers are included when exporting and importing electrical networks with the Export Network and Import Network tools
4. Create Bill of Materials lists of electrical circuits
Electrical
The Bill of Materials feature now includes electrical circuits and their data. This allows you to create a list of all circuits in a project. The list can be sorted according to different properties, such as panel name and circuit number, and you can also filter the list according to circuit types (power, communication, controls, data, fire, nurse call, security, and telephone).
5. Improved VAV (variable air volume) system calculation
Ventilation
It is now possible to perform VAV (variable air volume) system calculation without the installation of a pressure measurer. In this case, VAV control is handled by the first damper upstream. This means that the adjustment value of the air terminals remains constant and the adjustment value of the damper changes when the air flow is changed.
6. Change ventilation sizing method in calculation report
Ventilation
You can now change the sizing method directly in the ventilation calculation report. This allows you to evaluate different sizing methods before updating the results to the model. Simply right-click a row on the sizing calculation report, select Set sizing method and then click Update sizing to see the results.
7. Perform ventilation sizing with smaller connection ducts
Ventilation
You can now perform ventilation sizing with connection ducts that are smaller than the connection size of the ventilation device. When the new ‘Allow also smaller connection sizes’ option is selected, duct sizes are determined according to the velocity or dp max/m value regardless of the connection size of the device.
8. Easy identification of sprinkler objects in model and report
Sprinkler
Locating sprinkler objects in the project and their lines in the sprinkler report is now easy. When you select a line in the sprinkler report, the corresponding object is highlighted in the model and selecting an object in the project highlights the corresponding line in the sprinkler report.
Additionally, you can now add connection nodes to a sprinkler network and sprinkler reports now include the date and time on every page of the report.
9. Create detailed running index schemes with parameter filtering
Common
You can now use parameter filters to create detailed running index schemes. The ready schemes can be saved into selection sets and loaded into other projects. This helps reduce filtering work in the model.
10. Change pipe branch types with Change Properties
Piping
The Change Properties function offers an easy and fast way to change pipe branch types. The branch type can be changed between a tee and a tap. Using Change Properties allows you to first model the entire network and then change all the needed branches simultaneously.
Additionally, the Change Properties function now supports flexible pipes.
11. Manage fluids in MagiCAD dataset
Piping
Managing the different fluids that are used for heat transfer is now much easier. New functions in the MagiCAD dataset allow you to manage fluids and bring in fluid data directly from an online fluid library.
To add fluids into the dataset, you can either create them manually or click the Pick from fluid properties button to add them from an online library that uses the CoolProp fluid database. The library contains all fluid types that are commonly used as a secondary heat transfer media. You can add fluid properties—including density, dynamic viscosity and specific heat capacity at different temperature points—from the library directly into the MagiCAD dataset. The connection to the database is enabled by MagiCAD Connect. The ready fluids can then be transferred between the dataset and the project using the Design Data tool.
The addition of fluid management functions in the dataset means that the previously used specific heat capacity tool is no longer needed and has been removed.
12. Improvements to the Update Parameters function
Piping, Electrical
The Update Parameters function can now be used for new tasks. You can use the function to add product codes to Piping and Electrical products. This eliminates the need to perform network sizing in order to get product code instances. In addition, the selection area for Update Parameters now includes provisions for builderswork openings.
13. More detailed definition of insulation and segment series
Ventilation, Piping, Electrical
Segment (duct, pipe, cable tray and conduit) and insulation series now include separate properties for material code and material name to enable more detailed definition.
There are also new options specifically for insulation series. Coating code and coating material can now be defined separately and there is a new property for insulation class. If an identical user code is set for different insulation series, an additional insulation user code can be used to differentiate between them. Finally, all of the insulation properties are now added to host elements for tagging purposes.
14. Improved usability in Project Wizard
Common
The usability of the Project Wizard tool has been improved with multiple small additions. You can now easily control the pinning status of elements and remove spaces from the project, as well as open a new view when creating elements manually.
15. Add national classification codes to generic air-handling units
Ventilation
Generic air-handling units sometimes require a national classification code. You can now add and edit national classification codes in the generic air handling unit properties. Classification codes can be added for individual units or for multiple units simultaneously.
