MagiCAD Student Licensing FAQ

1. Who is eligible to license and access MagiCAD student licensing?

  • Students who need the software for individual, personal use associated with education. Participants must study at a “qualified educational institution” and may only use these licenses on a personal device for purposes directly related to learning or research.
  • Student license offering may be limited to selected countries.
  • A “qualified educational institution” is an educational institution that has been accredited by an authorized governmental agency and has the primary purpose of teaching its enrolled students. This includes middle schools, high schools, and higher education institutions.

Software and cloud-based services subject to a student license may be used solely for educational purposes and shall not be used for commercial, professional, or any other for-profit purposes.

5. How long can I use MagiCAD license?

License period is defined in delivery letter. In the expiry date the activation will stop working.

6. How do I extend the usage period?

There is no extension possibility. New order needs to be placed.

7. How do I upgrade to newer MagiCAD version?

A new Major Release might be published during the license period. It can be downloaded and activated using the originally received Activation ID. Please note to check Autodesk platform compatibility before installation.

We might publish smaller Update Releases (version number does not change) during the license period.

Availability is usually communicated in our web pages and MagiCAD´s in-software communication functionality.

8. Are the product features and functionality of MagiCAD licensed through the MagiCAD student enrollment identical to commercial MagiCAD licensing?

Yes, we have not limited the functionality in MagiCAD.

Please note that there might be platform dependent differences in license behavior. E.g. Autodesk Educational watermarking.

9. What are the requirements for the MagiCAD installation environment?

The latest requirements for the operating environment can be found on MagiCAD Download Portal.

10. Where do I get needed Autodesk student licenses?

Please join to Autodesk Education Community. Remember to familiarize yourself to Autodesk specific usage rights and possible functionality/feature limitations, which might differ from MagiCAD ones.

11. With what Autodesk versions is MagiCAD compatible with?

This is discussed in platform requirements document from MagiCAD Download Portal.
Eg.

  • MagiCAD 2020 for Revit is compatible with Autodesk Revit versions 2018 to 2020
  • MagiCAD 2020 for AutoCAD is compatible with Autodesk AutoCAD versions 2016 to 2020

12. What are the hardware requirements?

The latest requirements for the operating environment can be found on MagiCAD Download Portal.

The Hardware requirement are set according the Platform software demands separately for AutoCAD and for Revit: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/system-requirements

Please note that neither MAC is supported nor virtualization environments.

13. What MagiCAD modules are included in licensing?

The product activation includes the following MagiCAD modules

  • MagiCAD Ventilation
  • MagiCAD Piping
  • MagiCAD Electrical
  • MagiCAD Circuit Designer
  • MagiCAD Room
  • MagiCAD Comfort & Energy
  • MagiCAD Schematics
  • MagiCAD Supports & Hangers

Out of which MagiCAD Circuit Designer, MagiCAD Room and MagiCAD Comfort & Energy are available AutoCAD only. MagiCAD Supports & Hangers is available for Revit only.

Student licensing is available as Stand Alone Version only.

14. How do I download MagiCAD installation package?

The fastest method is to click product link in received delivery letter sent from delivery@magicad.com.

Another method is to go to MagiCAD download portal and sign in with your personal Activation ID received in delivery letter.

15. I have an older version of AutoCAD/Revit installed. Am I required to upgrade to the 2020 version to be able to use MagiCAD 2020 release?

16. Is the MagiCAD activation ID tied to one computer?

The MagiCAD Licensing method is Stand Alone License.

A stand-alone license allows the software to be installed to one or more workstations. Each stand-alone license entitles simultaneously one person to use the software product after its activation on the workstation. A change of workstation requires that the license key is returned from the workstation to the license activation server and then re-activated on another workstation. We may limit the number of re-activations during the given period of time in order to prevent the misuse of software products.

Please note that Software and cloud-based services subject to a student license may be used solely for educational purposes by the person stated in Delivery letter and shall not be used for commercial, professional, or any other for-profit purposes.

17. I need to replace the hard drive on my computer. What will happen to my product activation?

Before you start executing major changes in operating environment (hardware or software), Please familiarize yourself with MagiCAD License Management Utility User Guide. You must first transfer your current activation back to our product activation portal. After you have completed the modifications, the activation can be returned to your new hard drive using the same functionality.

18. I do not meet the eligibility criteria to license software through the MagiCAD student licensing. How can I get MagiCAD software?

19. I am going to work part time / summer in an engineering company. Am I allowed to use my MagiCAD student license there.
