MagiCAD 2019 Update Release 2
1. Add product information to generic parts in duct, pipe, insulation material and absorption material series with product variables
[Ventilation & Piping]
You can now add product information to generic parts in duct, pipe, insulation material and absorption material series with the Product variables feature. Product variables were previously only available with manufacturer specific duct series.
Product variables allow users to include additional information to products, such as manufacturer details or data for cost estimation purposes, and make it easier to create reports and manage products even when using generic parts.
2. Quick and effective control cable management
[Circuit Designer]
It is now possible to add and remove multiple conductors at a time, making control cable management much more efficient. The new Add several… function in Preferences allows you to define how many conductors to add and to set a starting ID number. The new conductors will then be added in order. You can also select and delete multiple active conductors at a time, instead of deleting them one by one. These functions make it quick and easy to match conductor amounts in the drawing with the actual cables.
You can now also import control cables from existing drawings. There is no need to manually define control cables for each new project as all needed cables can be merged from an existing template or from circuit schematic drawings. Starting a new project is much faster when the preparation work can be done with just a few mouse clicks.
3. Link existing conductors to control cables
[Circuit Designer]
It is now possible to link any existing conductor to a control cable. There is no need to delete and redraw the conductor in order to add the control cable link. This improvement makes it faster to finalise drawings, as well as makes it easier to use ready-made circuit designs, e.g. from template drawings, as users can simply link the existing conductors to the appropriate control cables.
4. 3D Model Organiser
[Electrical]
Electrical design often employs 2D drawings, based on which 3D BIM models are created to account for modern requirements. Arranging electrical 3D models to their correct places according to a 2D drawing requires a lot of manual work as each item needs to be moved and placed individually. With the new 3D Model Organiser feature you can select multiple 3D elements, for example sockets that will be installed to a cable trunking system, and move and align them as a group to the desired location while maintaining their correct height level.
5. Room type templates in MagiCAD Room
[Room]
Various room properties, such as supply air flow and supply air temperature, had to be defined manually in previous MagiCAD versions. The same values could be used when adding similar rooms, however, if users added different types of rooms the values had to be manually edited.
It is now possible to create templates for various room types, which can then be easily selected when defining rooms. Additionally, using room type templates makes it easy to compare different design alternatives simply by editing the template values, as the changes are then applied to all rooms of the same type. When the Room project is connected to either a Ventilation & Piping or an Electrical project, the room type is also available as a device property.
6. Export room and functional zone lists with properties to Excel
[Room]
It is now possible to export lists of rooms and zones, together with their properties, directly to Excel, whereas room and zone data was previously only available in the MagiCAD Room project. Exporting room and zone lists to Excel allows users to work with and analyse the data as a whole. For example, it is possible to add up the heat loss values of individual rooms in order to get an overall measurement of heat loss in a larger section or entire floor of a building.
7. Find and Replace text function includes the Note field in Provision for Builderswork Openings
[Ventilation & Piping, Electrical]
Instead of individually editing the Note field text of each Provision for Builderswork Openings instance individually, it is now possible to make the same edit to the Note fields of all instances. This saves considerable time on updating the project notes and eliminates repetitive work.
8. Add information and comments into drawings for Provision for Buildersworks Openings objects
[Ventilation & Piping, Electrical]
During communication between contractors and designers, information regarding approval of provisions and feedback on required changes is brought back to the drawings and into the provision objects using Tekla Structures software.
This information was previously only available in the provision details and in separate reports. It is now possible to tag this information to individual provisions in the project drawing itself, making general oversight and checking for issues faster and easier. In addition to comments and feedback, it is also possible to include the provision shape, layer variable {PFV} value and IFC GUID to the dimension text. This information can also be displayed temporarily using the Part Property Line function.
9. Supply area calculations for switchboards
[Electrical]
When defining a switchboard area, users can now add its surface area to an area summary for the corresponding switchboard. Area summaries allow designers to easily check that the supply areas for switchboards are not too large. The summary is compiled automatically when the drawings are open, or you can update the summary manually with the Update Drawing Data function. A switchboard area can also be excluded from the calculation by leaving the selection unchecked.
10. Synchronize system colors between Ventilation & Piping and Schematic projects
[Ventilation & Piping, Schematics]
In the previous version of MagiCAD users had to manually select and edit colors in Schematic drawings in order to be able to match them with those used in a connected Ventilation&Piping project. Any changes to the color scheme had to be done separately in both the Ventilation & Piping and the Schematic project.
It is now possible to use the system colors of a Ventilation & Piping project in a Schematic project by selecting the new color option By System. Any changes to the system color settings in a Ventilation & Piping project will be automatically updated to the respective elements in a connected Schematic project.
11. Mapping property data from Schematic projects to Ventilation & Piping projects
[Ventilation & Piping, Schematics]
Mapping property data between Schematic and Ventilation&Piping projects makes it easier to work on and update a project that employs both modules. The following property data can now be mapped from Schematic projects to Ventilation & Piping projects:
- Cooling power for Climate beam devices
- Heating power for Climate beam devices
- Heating power for Radiator devices
- Required flow for e.g. air devices
Previously, this property data could only be mapped from Ventilation&Piping projects to Schematic projects but not the other way around.
12. Simultaneous handling of multiple circuits in switchboard schematics
[Electrical]
Circuit handling in switchboard schematics is now easier and faster as you can now move, copy or delete multiple sequential circuits simultaneously. Managing multiple circuits makes it easier to move around large circuit structures for space considerations and saves valuable time in the preparation stage as users can simply copy a large number of circuits in their initial schematic drawing.
13. Define inner bend radius for T- and X-branches of cable routes
[Electrical]
Demands for modelling cable tray elements have increased together with the increased use of BIM methodology. It is now possible to define the inner bend radiuses for T- and X-branches in order to model them according to manufacturer specifications. You can define default inner bend radius settings for a project and each branch item can then be modified afterwards with the Change Properties function.
14. Drawing reports updated automatically when saving
[Schematics]
You can set all reports in a drawing to be automatically updated when it is saved with a new Update reports when saving setting. It is no longer necessary to manually select what to update and there is no risk of forgetting to update reports when saving.
15. Mark access panels with a symbol in plan drawings and axonometric drawings
[Ventilation]
It is now possible to identify access panels with a symbol in a single line presentation (1D mode) according to local practices. The presentation mode can be selected with a new setting in Viewport Preferences. Symbols can be displayed in both plan drawings and axonometric drawings and their orientation is determined by the handle direction of the actual access panel 3D object.
