Insinööritoimisto Kai Kivistö Ky is a dynamic engineering consultancy located in Rauma, Finland. Kai Kivistö provides a complete package of engineering services for piping, HVAC and automation design, energy-efficiency analysis, condition assessment of HVAC and piping systems, BIM project coordination services, and project supervision. The typical projects include terraced houses and apartment buildings as well as schools and commercial buildings, with the sizes ranging from 300 m² to 6000 m².
Insinööritoimisto Kai Kivistö has been using MagiCAD since 2000. Today they utilise MagiCAD on both AutoCAD and Revit technologies, the applications including MagiCAD Heating & Piping, Ventilation, System Designer, and Comfort & Energy modules.
– MagiCAD is reliable and easy to use and it provides us with an exceptionally comprehensive database of manufacturer products. MagiCAD enables us to produce sound level calculations, bills of materials for contractors, and export a complete 3D BIM model of the project for delivery to the customer, says the owner and principal designer, HVAC and Piping Engineer Kai Kivistö.
– BIM is fast becoming a prerequisite in projects of every size. We have considered it very important to be in tune with the progress and as a result we have delivered our first full BIM projects already well over a year ago, Kai continues.
– Most projects require coordination between fairly many different parties, including for instance the architect, the structural designer, electrical designer, earthworks engineer, project supervisors, contractors, building owners’ representatives, building users’ representatives, etc. Depending on the size and requirements of the project, we handle information exchange and commenting using a shared project databank and regular project meetings. In smaller projects, meetings and commenting via email are often enough, says Kai.
– For BIM quality assurance and design review, we have lately been increasingly utilising the Solibri Model Checker, which integrates well with MagiCAD’s IFC export features.
