MagiCAD Group releases MagiCAD Electrical 2019 Update Release 1 for Revit with integrated electrical calculations for Revit. At the same time, MagiCAD Group and Schneider Electric announce that they have signed a cooperation agreement, enabling Schneider Electric’s Ecodial electrical calculations to be integrated into the electrical modelling functions of MagiCAD Electrical for Revit, MagiCAD Group’s BIM software for Electrical design.
MagiCAD Electrical is the first software to date to enable integrated electrical building services calculations to be performed directly from the Revit model, complete with bidirectional flow of data between the calculations and the Revit project. This means that the electrical designers using Revit technology no longer need to perform the calculations separately using external calculation software.
“At Schneider Electric, we want to promote seamless connectivity between technologies”, comments Christopher David, Senior Vice President at Schneider Electric. “Our unique ecosystem makes this possible by allowing our partners, such as MagiCAD Group, the developer of MagiCAD, to develop and bring to the industry new ways of doing things, for the benefit of the entiredesign and prescription community.
Christopher continues, “In the case of MagiCAD Group, our cooperation enables our electrical calculations to be integrated as part of MagiCAD’s Revit-based electrical modelling tools.”
“Our cooperation with Schneider Electric represents a significant step forward for Revit-based electrical building services design”, states Commercial Director Petteri Laakso from MagiCAD Group.
“With this new version of MagiCAD Electrical, we are bringing to the Revit platform the first comprehensive solution for electrical design and calculations, extending the capabilities of the native Revit platform in a truly groundbreaking way”, Petteri continues.
“By enabling integrated calculations, we are helping electrical designers to benefit more from Revit’s important collaborative Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities, as the designers will no longer have to compromise on electrical design and calculation functions to make use of Revit”, states Petteri.
Revit’s software architecture is not natively oriented towards wire drawing and detailed modelling of the electrical system, which is why MagiCAD Electrical can provide a significant extension to the electrical design capabilities of the Autodesk Revit platform. MagiCAD brings to Revit technology comprehensive and intelligent cable functions, with wires, supply cable routes and switchboard schematics which enable the entire system to be modelled. Now, with the new version, MagiCAD’s detailed modelling capabilities will be connected with the electrical calculations provided by Schneider Electric’s Ecodial calculation engine. The detailed electrical drawings enabled by MagiCAD provide an accurate basis for electrical calculations, such as exact cable lengths.
The integration of Schneider Electric Ecodial calculation engine with MagiCAD’s electrical design functions will enable a wide range of electrical operations, such as cable sizing, voltage drop, and short-circuit calculations, as well as the use of protective devices, directly from the Revit project.
MagiCAD Electrical fully integrates with the user interface of Revit software. MagiCAD Electrical automates many frequently required electrical design tasks on Revit, and can shorten the typical run-through time of electrical design projects by 30 % or more. MagiCAD Electrical is available for both Revit and AutoCAD technologies.
