The Building 2030 consortium’s final report Hukka LVI- ja sähkötöissä investigated how installers spend their time on site.
The research revealed a clear finding: incomplete or inaccurate plans cause the most waste throughout the whole process. In particular, using the wrong or imprecise MEP components in designs often meant that installation locations had to be adjusted on site.
For example, several electricians in the report highlighted how cable trays are often designed underneath large ventilation ducts. While the systems themselves don’t clash, fixing supports under the duct is either impossible or very time-consuming. As a result, installers spend a great deal of time solving these issues during construction.
