MEP Design

In the fast-paced world of MEP coordination, meeting project deadlines while maintaining precision and efficiency is a constant challenge. For Philip Dooley, a freelance MEP Revit/BIM Coordinator at CAD Resources, adopting MagiCAD for Revit—specifically the Supports and Hangers module – proved to be invaluable. By automating and optimising containment placement within Revit models, MagiCAD has helped transform their workflow, saving significant time and enhancing project outcomes.

Effective workflow with MagiCAD

Philip acquired the MagiCAD Supports and Hangers module to assist with existing projects on Revit 2021, where the requirements had expanded to include containment coordination for the MEP systems, and it has proven to be a game-changer.

Containment modelling is increasingly included in MEP project requirements. This means new challenges for MEP coordination and, as Philip reminds us, brings with it a lot of new things to be mindful of: “For example, with Revit fabrication parts, insulation can result in some support and hanger elements reading a different outer diameter value for pipework, which has a knock-on effect.”

Prior to acquiring MagiCAD, Philip had already converted the design models into MEP fabrication parts. MagiCAD’s compatibility allowed him to leverage the software’s advanced features for an effective and automated containment layout for the MEP systems. The module has been an instant boost to his workflow and going forward Philip is looking to take it into use in new projects.

“MagiCAD has proven its worth and saved me many man hours to date”

Familiar MEP coordination challenges

Coordination between different building services systems is a familiar challenge for many, and it can even be exacerbated by shifting project phases and tight schedules.  “Before all contractors have had the opportunity to fully coordinate the M&E services, builders require builders work opening provisions to allow them to develop precast walls and floors. This can be a time consuming and taxing task”, tells Philip. To this end, he has already experimented with MagiCAD’s ‘Builderswork openings’ tool to positive results and is looking forward to taking it into use in future projects to help with provision management.

Tools That Deliver

Philip’s experience highlights how MagiCAD for Revit, and the Supports and Hangers module, deliver measurable benefits—saving time, improving accuracy, and simplifying the coordination of complex projects.

“The Supports and Hangers module has saved a lot of time and effort on existing projects, particularly with its compatibility and advanced features. I’d absolutely recommend MagiCAD to others.”

Philip’s experience showcases MagiCAD’s commitment to streamlining MEP design and coordination processes. For professionals facing similar challenges, MagiCAD for Revit offers a proven solution to enhance productivity, optimise workflows, and meet project deadlines with confidence.
