MagiCAD 2020 Update Release 2

1. Perform electrical calculations based on real circuiting

[Electrical]
Electrical calculations can now be performed with real loads for all circuits in a project. This allows users to check protection in all power circuits. A load circuit can be defined as a socket load or a passive load, which affects the used RCD values. The previous calculation function has been renamed Distribution Calculations and can be used as an early phase calculation tool.

The new version also includes a new Update Element Data function that provides increased accuracy to electrical calculations. The function can be used to update longest branch lengths and supply cable lengths into circuits and to update other element properties into cable packets, devices and wires. Longest branch lengths in a system are calculated along the drawn wire route. If only some or none of the wires for a system have been drawn, orthogonal lengths between devices are used instead. Supply cable lengths are also included in longest branch lengths and can be calculated without cable packet connections. Simply define selected open-ended wires as supply cables and the supply cable lengths are then calculated using orthogonal lengths from the connected devices to the supplying switchboards. Cable packet connections can still be used to calculate more accurate supply cable lengths when needed.

2. Copy and connect entire branches in electrical design

[Electrical]
Users can now copy and move entire cable tray and conduit branches. The branches can be rotated and mirrored before connecting to an existing network. Being able to handle entire branches greatly improves modelling productivity and quality.

When you select a branch a small direction arrow will be visible, and the selected objects will be highlighted. It is possible to select and copy several branches at a time. You can either connect branches manually or define their position by entering an exact distance from a given point.

3. Improved functionality for 3-port valves

[Piping]
MagiCAD now includes a new valve category for 3-port valves. The new version also supports connections to all three ports and calculations of systems with 3 port valves.

4. Detailed modelling accuracy with upgraded routing tool

[Ventilation, Piping, Electrical]
New functions in the routing tool makes it easier to define the detailed placement for ducts, pipes, conduits and containment when modelling. The new settings allow for a higher level of initial modelling accuracy and eliminate the need for later revisions.

You can define either one (X or Y) or two (X and Y) reference points for the offset at the starting point (X,Y). Distances can then be defined as either center distance or from edge to edge. Combined with vertical alignment the new functions offer a completely new level of modelling accuracy.

5. Connection pipe series selection and new operational area for sprinklers

[Sprinkler]
It is now possible to select the connection pipe series for sprinklers directly in the Sprinkler Connection tool. Additionally, flexible pipes can be used for the final section to the sprinkler.

The new version also adds a rectangular operational area pattern to sprinklers. The new area is available for selection during sprinkler installation.

6. Improvements to ventilation calculations and new French calculation standard

[Calculations]
The new version of MagiCAD supports user defined air density and viscosity for ventilation systems. This enables more accurate calculations of, for example, smoke evacuation systems and buildings located in high altitudes.

Support for the French DTU 68.3 calculation standard for ventilation has also been added to MagiCAD.

7. Identify and repair broken links in Schematics

[Schematic]
MagiCAD Schematics introduces a new tool for repairing broken links between symbols in schematic views and devices in the model. Devices, symbols, and even entire network branches are often removed or copied during design work. This may easily lead to corrupted links that can be hard to identify. A new tool in Schematics provides an easy way to list all corrupted links in a project. The tool also suggests alternatives to fix the issues either by removing the object, resetting the link or by relinking the objects.

8. Upgraded Provision for Builderswork Openings tool with many new capabilities and Autodesk Fabrication support

[Common]
The logic and algorithms behind the Provisions for Builderswork Openings tool have been almost completely renewed. The new level of intelligence provides improved support for fittings and accessories, introduces provisions based on true element geometry, and enables provisions in many new wall and host element types.

The upgraded tool also supports Autodesk Fabrication ductwork, pipework and containment elements. Additionally, the handling of recessed provisions has been improved for fittings that are located inside or partially inside walls and for ducts that do not fully penetrate a wall or a slab. You can now also include curtain walls when checking for needed openings. Finally, the feature now includes support for linked MEP files.

9. Adjust Clash Detection tolerance and update clash reports

[Common]
The new version allows users to define a tolerance limit for hard clashes. If the clash overlap is less than the set limit, the clash will not be registered. Setting a clash tolerance allows users to skip clashes when the overlap is so small that the clash can be easily solved on site.

When you have resolved the clashes listed in the clash report, you can now update the report with a new Update clashes function. This changes the status of the resolved items to solved. You can also hide all solved ashes to get a better view of the remaining issues.

10. IFC enhancements

[Common]
The IFC Export function has been upgraded and now supports export and import of IFC Zip files. The function also allows users to attach property sets to (IFC)project, (IFC)building and (IFC)storey. Additionally, parameters for National code, Description and Volume have been added for insulation series.
