New features – MagiCAD 2023 UR-2 for Revit
Autodesk Revit compatibility
MagiCAD 2023 UR-2 for Revit is compatible with Revit 2023.1, as well as Revit 2019-2022. Please note that Revit 2023 is not supported.
When using Revit 2023, the software platform must be updated to Revit 2023.1 or later before installing MagiCAD 2023 UR-2 for Revit.
MagiCAD 2023 Update Release 2
1. Updated Selection Filter tool
Ventilation, Piping, Electrical
The MagiCAD Selection Filter tool allows you to easily find and select products from the project. The tool has now been updated with new options that enable more detailed filtering and support for MagiCAD Schematics.
Selection Filter now includes the filtering options Category, Family, Type and System code for schematic projects. Additionally, new filtering options for Size, System code and User code have been added for Electrical, Ventilation and Piping.
2. Batch export of Bill of Materials reports
Ventilation, Piping, Electrical
The Bill of Materials tool now allows you to export multiple reports as a batch with the new Export Batch BoM function. The tool includes the possibility to create and save selection sets. The new Export Batch BoM function can then be used to batch export reports based on the selection sets, instead of performing the export individually each time. To enable more versatile selection, the tool also includes additional range options.
3. Calculate minimum water tank size for sprinkler systems
Sprinkler
An external water tank for a sprinkler system is needed in cases where the water supply from the city water network is not sufficient to supply the system. The minimum size needed for the water tank can now be automatically calculated with MagiCAD. The calculation is based on the flow at the root of the sprinkler network and the minimum operating times of hazard classes. The operating times are based on the CEA 4001 standard. If needed, a custom operating time can also be defined.
4. Fixed and scalable sizing options for sprinkler symbols
Sprinkler
Select whether to use fixed or scalable sizes for sprinkler symbols. The sizing options provide increased flexibility to edit the symbol presentation in drawings.
5. Easy sorting of schematic symbols with label-based filtering
Schematic
Finding a specific symbol from a tool palette full of them can sometimes be difficult. New additions to MagiCAD Schematics help you find your favourite symbols easily and allow you to sort the selection according to need.
You can now assign labels to symbols and symbol assemblies in the dataset and then filter the symbols in the tool palette based on the labels. When you switch between schematic drawings, you can simply change the active label in the tool palette to adjust the symbol selection to suit the current drawing. Labels also make it easy to create a selection of frequently used symbols for quick access.
6. Improved Merge Parameters and Mark Link Status tools in Schematics
Schematic
The Merge Parameters tool in MagiCAD Schematics has been updated to support Revit detail items. When you include detail items in a configuration that will be updated, their parameter values are merged with symbols and lines that were drawn with MagiCAD Schematics.
The Mark Link Status tool has also been improved. The tool allows users to mark whether a symbol in the schematic drawing is linked to an object in the model. In the new version, you can also mark the linking status for devices and components in the model.
7. Improved data exchange workflow between MagiCAD and Building Performance Simulation tools
Building Performance
The workflow for data transfer between MagiCAD and Building Performance Simulation (BPS) tools has been improved for increased flexibility. When working with an external Building Performance Simulation tool, the building geometry is exported to either IFC or gbXml format—the file format depends on the BPS software—using native Revit export tools. The simulation results can then be imported into the Revit project with MagiCAD’s import tools.
In the new version, space mapping between the Revit project and the BPS tool is always done by matching space number and name combinations. This allows users to edit the models in MagiCAD and the BPS tool independently without waiting for the simulation to be finished. When the simulation results are imported back to the Revit project, all changes made in the meantime are merged.
The newest addition to the selection of supported BPS tools is IES Virtual Environment. A MagiCAD extension is available for IES Virtual Environment that enables the software to export IFC files that are compatible with MagiCAD. The other currently supported BPS tools are Riuska, IDA-ICE and Design Builder.
8. Adjust collar length of floor gullies
Piping
The optimal design solution may sometimes require customized products that are not readily available. MagiCAD now includes the possibility to adjust the collar length for floor gullies during installation with new settings for elevation reference point and collar length. Collar length adjustment is initially available for generic floor gully products but will be expanded to manufacturer products in connection with product updates.
9. Calculation and sizing of ventilation systems with reducing bends
Ventilation
Ventilation calculation has been improved to account for situations where a rectangular bend has different outlet sizes. The calculation now interprets the bend as a reducing part, which makes it easier to size rectangular systems according to the calculation result. Previously, an extra reducer was added to the bend to enable the calculation.
10. Support for Spanish UNE 149201:2017/DB-HS4 domestic water calculation standard
Piping
MagiCAD now supports domestic water and hot water circulation calculations according to the Spanish UNE 149201:2017/DB-HS4 standard. The available appliance types are according to the standard and the design flow rates for cold and hot water connections are automatically set based on the appliance type.
11. Ignore dampers in extended flow analysis report
Ventilation
You can now ignore and restore flow dampers in the extended flow analysis report for ventilation networks and update the balancing calculation accordingly. This makes it easy to check the necessity of individual dampers without editing the project itself.
12. Mark distribution areas with panel border arrows
Electrical
The new Panel Border Arrow function allows you to mark panel distribution areas in printout views with arrow symbols. The arrow symbols can indicate the edge of a single panel’s distribution area or the border between two panels’ areas. Panel names can be added to arrow labels—BC for the primary panel, B2 for the secondary panel—and the names can later be updated with the Update Parameters function.
13. Clash checking and clearance analysis based on object status
Common
It is now possible to define if objects will be included in clash checking and clearance analysis based on their object status (MC Object status parameter). The selection can be made for each object status alternative in the MagiCAD dataset. Using object status improves the quality of both clash checking and clearance analysis, as they can account for different project stages, for example.
Additional improvements to clash checking include the possibility to run real-time clash checking in Revit plan regions and dependent views, as well as improved identification of sloped pipe collisions.
14. Improvements to Provision for Builderswork Openings
Common
The Provision for Builderswork Openings tool now includes the possibility to set exceptions for automatic provision merging, which is normally done simply based on the distance between openings. The new exceptions allow you to set provision merging according to system type. For example, the exceptions can be used to prevent provisions for domestic water systems being merged with provisions for electrical systems. There is also an exception to prevent provisions from being merged if all the provisions are circular.
Additionally, there is a new option to select a linked object when creating manual provisions. This will read relevant information, such as size and height level, from the linked object, which makes it easier and faster to create manual provisions.
