MagiCAD 2024

1. Support for Autodesk AutoCAD 2024

MagiCAD 2024 is compatible with the new Autodesk AutoCAD 2024, as well as with the previous three AutoCAD versions 2021-2023, including the verticals AutoCAD MEP and AutoCAD Architecture.

2. Use classification standards for systems

Ventilation, Piping, Sprinkler, Electrical

The new version of MagiCAD extends the use of classification standards to systems. As soon as a system has been created, it can be mapped to a classification standard in the project. During the design of the system network, all objects will then receive classification codes automatically according to the classification standard. If there are any changes to the classification information, the new information can be updated to drawings.

3. Update products in MagiCAD through MagiCAD Cloud

Ventilation, Piping, Electrical, Sprinkler

Products in MagiCAD Cloud are sometimes updated with new information, but this information is not automatically transferred to products that have been saved for use in MagiCAD. MagiCAD Cloud product dialogs now show if a product you have saved has new information and allow you to easily update it in MagiCAD.

4. Label objects for custom filtering

You can now add labels to objects in drawings and then use the labels in MagiCAD reporting and exporting functions for custom filtering. The labels can also be used to add selected objects to an IFC export that would normally not be included in the current project phase. This is useful when you have complex or detailed spaces that you want to export in full in order to share the information for different stakeholders.

5. New options in the Drawing Cleaning Utility tool

Ventilation, Piping, Electrical, Sprinkler

New options in the Drawing Cleaning Utility tool add flexibility, help eliminate repetitive work, and reduce the need for additional software when cleaning drawings. The Clear fill option allows you to remove fills from the drawing by switching off the filling mode. The different Explode options allow you to select additional actions for exploded objects. Finally, the Drawing Cleaning Utility tool now includes the possibility to run a script file for the selected models.

6. Updated Part Properties windows in Ventilation and Piping modules

Updated Part Properties windows in the Ventilation and Piping modules show more information about products and their related properties and provide a better overview of device data. Users now have easier access to all the necessary information without having to open multiple different dialogs for an overview of how different properties affect a device.

7. Calculation of variable air volume (VAV) systems

Variable air volume (VAV) systems adjust the airflow of ventilation systems based on demand. They are effective in reducing energy-use in buildings where occupancy varies greatly throughout the day, such as commercial buildings. In order to design VAV systems effectively, you need to be able to simulate different usage scenarios to ensure that the system will operate as planned.

It is now possible to define and calculate variable air volume (VAV) systems in MagiCAD. You can define up to three different airflow rates—for example low, medium, and heavy—for air terminals and assign the air terminals to zones that combine similar spaces together. The airflow rates and zones can then be used to build schedules, which simulate different usage situations, such as a full office with meeting rooms in use or an empty office at night.

8. Connect any device type to a lighting track

Different kinds of adapters are often used to connect luminaires to lighting tracks, instead of the luminaire being directly connected. Therefore MagiCAD now allows all device types to be connected to a lighting track, instead of luminaires only. Devices can be connected freely, and all connected devices are taken into account in calculations.

Additional improvements to lighting tracks include definition of installation codes for accurate installation information and definition of default system and cable type for faster drawing.

9. Define default connect mode when drawing electrical systems

You can now define whether the connect mode is on or off by default when drawing electrical segments, such as cable trays, cable packets, cables, lighting tracks, LED-stripes and conduits. The default connect mode setting is available in User Preferences. For devices, the connect mode is always off by default, since they rarely need to be connected to existing objects.
