1. Update riser diagrams

Automatic main riser diagrams and ELV riser diagrams were introduced in MagiCAD 2021 and MagiCAD 2022 UR-1 respectively. The features have now been improved with the possibility to update the diagrams with changes that have been made to the related systems. This eliminates the need to redraw the diagrams if something is changed in the model.

The Update Schematics function compares the schematic and the model and lists all changes between them in a dialogue window. You can then add schematic symbols for new elements, delete schematic symbols if their corresponding object has been removed, and update device groups in the model with new information.

2. New options for symbol presentation

Electrical

New options for converted 2D symbols enable more flexibility in their presentation. You can now select whether you want to keep the labels and texts of converted symbols readable when the symbols are rotated in the model. They were previously always maintained as readable, but users can now select to forgo this and have the orientation of labels and texts follow the symbol.

In addition, you can also define subcategories for the different parts of a symbol. This allows you to control the colouring of the symbols directly from the subcategories in Revit’s visibility settings.

3. Easily select correct device for wire connection

Electrical

A lot of electrical devices, such as sockets, switches, and others, are often installed on top of each other or in very close vicinity to each other. Because of this, it may be difficult to select the correct device when you are connecting wires to devices.

MagiCAD now shows a list of the devices in the area where you are creating the connection, if there are several connection possibilities, and you can simply select the correct one. No need to edit false connections or to zoom in and out to identify the correct device.

4. More flexibility in space-based air terminal selection

Ventilation

New options in space-based air terminal installation make it easier to identify a suitable solution. You can now select whether to include pressure drop and sound level as search criteria in the generative search of air terminals. Leaving them out allows you to also view solutions that would fall outside more strict search definitions.

To help with overview of the suggested solutions, warning messages with type specific colour identification indicate those ones that would not meet search criteria if pressure drop or sound level were also included.

5. Custom position names in Export to eKlimax

When a ventilation model is finished, it can be exported into a file that can be read by the eKlimax software. In eKlimax the information can be processed for manufacturing and ordering purposes.

The Export to eKlimax function has been improved with new options to customize position names for the export file. The prefix of the position name can be freely defined or left out entirely. You can also use the Part numbering tool to create individual part numbers for the ventilation system elements and then use the part numbers as position names. The assigned position names are also visible in the exported elements so that it is easier to trace them.

6. Errors and Warnings tool for calculation

Ventilation, Piping

A new Errors and Warnings tool in ventilation and piping calculation makes it easy to examine objects that have been marked with an error or a warning during sizing or balancing. The tool lists all marked objects, as well as provides additional information on the error or warning, and suggests possible corrections. You can also filter the list to better identify specific objects.

The error and warning codes are also written to the MC Error Codes and MC Warning Codes parameters of the objects in question. The exact meaning of each error and warning number can be found in the MagiCAD user manual.

7. Close flow dampers in calculation report

Ventilation

It is now possible to close flow dampers directly in the extended flow calculation report for ventilation systems. When a damper is closed, there is no flow through it and the damper acts as a cap. This allows you to simulate networks with and without extensions.

8. Print connected systems into one file

Ventilation, Piping

Ventilation and piping calculation reports now allow you to print all connected systems into the same file with a new Print all… function. Previously, the systems had to be printed separately, which was time-consuming and made review of the calculation results more difficult.

9. Elevation change indication for pipe bends

Piping

It is now possible to add height change symbols for pipe bends that are under 90 degrees and go from a higher elevation to a lower elevation. This small addition makes a big difference when reading drawings. Previously, no symbol could be added for these elevation changes, which meant that it was often difficult to spot them.

You can define the views where height change symbols are added and save the selection for later use. The same selection can also be added to a batch process with the Batch Manager function.

10. Part numbering for piping systems

Piping

Part numbering automatically generates an ID for each part in a piping model. The numbering system can be customized according to your needs. You can use the same number for identical products or a unique number for each individual part, and the same number series for all systems or a different number series for each system. The part numbers can also be used in tags, schedules and exports.

Part numbering enables better system overview, efficient part management, and a seamless connection between the model and any component listings that are extracted for external use, such as Bills of Materials. Part numbering can also be used to provide installers with a detailed drawing that tells them exactly what components to use and where.

11. Install bends from the floating toolbar

Ventilation, Piping

During duct and pipe routing the bends in the automatic routing solution may not be suitable in certain situations. The new Install bend option in the MagiCAD floating toolbar allows you to easily install any bend you need when modelling duct or pipe networks.

12. New trigger options in Batch Manager

With the MagiCAD Batch Manager you can save combinations of selected functions as batch processes, allowing you to automate the maintenance of your BIM model. The tool now includes new Export to DWG, Export to PDF and Export Electrical Network selections that trigger the batch process when exporting to a dwg or pdf file, or when exporting electrical networks.

The new options help ensure that all data is up to date before it is exported and shared with other project participants.

13. Custom numbering order for Running Index

Common

Customizing the numbering order of automatic running indexes has been limited to defining rows, direction, and a starting point. More complex numbering orders required that the elements were selected manually in order.

MagiCAD now includes a quick and easy way to define a custom numbering order by using a predefined spline. Splines can be drawn using Revit tools and Running Index will ask users to select which spline to use for numbering.

14. Performance improvements

Common

Project sizes have increased as a result of higher detail levels in models and objects, and the increased amount of BIM data that is included into project files. This naturally places higher demands for software performance as well.

To account for the increased demands, we are always looking to improve the performance of MagiCAD software. In this release, we have optimized the sizing and balancing calculations for piping systems and managed to reduce the time that they require by up to 70%. The time savings are significant especially when calculating large networks.

We have also made a smaller performance update to level management in the Project wizard tool. There is no more downtime between accepting changes to values and when they are applied to the model, making the feature more fluid and efficient to use.

15. Updated override of Revit functions

Ventilation, Piping, Electrical

MagiCAD 2023 UR-1 introduced the possibility to override the native Revit functions Create Similar and Draw Segment to ensure that the corresponding MagiCAD functions are used even in case native Revit commands are selected accidentally. The obvious benefit to using MagiCAD functions is that users simultaneously have access to other supporting MagiCAD functions, such as the floating toolbar. As an added benefit, using the MagiCAD functions helps ensure that no parameters are lost due to differences in the behavior of the Revit functions.

The Create Similar and Draw Segment functions in MagiCAD have now been updated to work in the exact same manner as the corresponding Revit functions. Even users who are used to the logic of the Revit functions can now select to use the MagiCAD functions throughout.
