1. IFC improvements

Common Tools

MagiCAD supports the IFC 4.3.2.0 schema, ensuring compliance with the latest BIM requirements.

In addition, IFC Export allows users to write ifcExportAs and ifcExportType information to model elements during the export to enable better checking of IFC definitions by MagiCAD.

The IFC export of switchboards, air handling units and heating and cooling plants has also been updated. These product classes are now imported as individual geometry objects, improving the level of detail and data in coordination models.

2. Transfer additional parameters in Find and replace tool

Common Tools

The Find and replace tool makes it easy to change products in a model. It is now possible to also transfer additional information to the new products. The tool shows a list of shared parameters that apply to both products, and you can select which ones should be copied to the new product in addition to the information that is automatically transferred.

3. Update function for legends

Common Tools

The legend tool automatically creates reports of products in the project according to your configuration. The tool now includes an update functionality, reducing the need for manual work when design changes occur.

Legends can now be updated according to the current project or template data using their original configuration settings. Users can simply select a legend on the list of current legends and update it. This removes the need for manual editing when properties are added or removed, and users no longer need to remember the original legend configurations to recreate them.

4. New properties for detailed element data

In response to the growing demand for more detailed element data, several new properties have been added to MagiCAD.

Segment series and insulation series in the MagiCAD dataset have a Series name property that is passed down to all elements in the series and the fittings in the series have a Description field that can be used to add any needed information. Segment series also contain weight per meter information, allowing for material weight calculation using the Update parameters function.

Provisions for builderswork openings include definition of fire rated penetration. When provisions are created automatically, the fire rated definition is added whenever elements pass through a fire rated wall structure.

Finally, missing native Revit parameters have been added to the Bill of Materials tool.

5. New routing engine for underfloor heating

Piping

The Auto-Routing Underfloor Heating function now employs a machine learning algorithm to produce optimized underfloor heating layout suggestions for users. The new version of the tool provides quality layout solutions for row and spiral pattern routing even with complex room shapes. The row pattern also allows definition of cold walls and obstacles to be avoided, giving users more options to optimize the design.

Automatic routing allows users to easily test different layout suggestions by adjusting the settings. Once a suitable layout has been generated users can install it to the selected room.

6. Improved radiator installation to space

Piping

The Install to space tool for radiator installation includes many new additions for easy and efficient radiator installation. By default, the maximum radiator width is not allowed to exceed the window width. If needed, users can limit the radiator width to be less than the window width, for example to accommodate a valve, or allow it to exceed the window width by a set amount. Radiator product and size selection allows multiple options to be selected, and it is now easier to change products to new types or sizes. Selected radiator sizes can be locked so that they are not accidentally resized later with other functions. The improvements provide users with more flexibility during radiator installation.

Valve selection has also been improved with the possibility to select valve orientation for supply and return connections. Proper positioning and orientation of valves during product installation saves time later in the project and works smoothly especially with the enhanced radiator installation to space function.

7. Circulation flow calculation based on heat loss per meter

Ventilation, Piping

It is now possible to define a constant Heat loss per meter value for the flow calculation of domestic hot water circulation systems. The value is applied in calculation to all pipes where the water circulates. The new option enables calculation of required circulation flow at the feed point of the system based on the temperature difference between hot and circulation water and the total heat loss in the circulation network.

8. Calculation support for air handling units with constant flow fans

Ventilation

MagiCAD ventilation calculation now supports air handling units with constant flow fans. Constant flow technology makes it possible to compensate for pressure differences and maintain balanced airflows in different conditions.

The taller the building or the windier the location, the greater the pressure difference caused by wind and temperature differences. Fluctuations in a home’s internal pressure can cause various problems for both residents and the building itself, including window fogging, pollutants entering the indoor air and moisture accumulating in the building structures. Constant flow fans adjust fan speed according to pressure and help maintain a balanced building pressure ratio.

9. Wire drawing across multiple views

Electrical

In many projects circuits extend across level or area boundaries, which means that wire drawing also needs to continue from view to view. This is now easy to do with special continuation node families that have been added to MagiCAD. The continuation nodes can be added to circuits to indicate where wires continue to other views and to enable more detailed route length calculation.

When you need to continue wire drawing in another view, you can place a node to the end of the wire using a new button in the floating toolbar. You’ll be prompted to define the elevation and dimensions for the node. If the Height value extends to the view above or below the current one, the node is automatically shown there as well. In the target view, you can connect to the same continuation node and continue the wire drawing. You also have the possibility to add a tag for the node in both views for easy identification.

10. Improved handling of default system and installation codes in Update parameters tool

Electrical

Empty default system or installation codes are no longer updated to objects when updating instances according to the dataset default values. Only default codes with a set value are applied to instances to prevent empty selections from overriding existing instance codes in the model. This ensures that no data is accidentally lost and removes the need to review selections in the Update Parameters dialog.

11. Improved Batch install function in Supports & Hangers module

Supports & Hangers

The Batch Install tool in the Supports & Hangers module now enables easier network selection. You can select any segment in the network as the starting point, which gives much more flexibility when using the tool. Previously, the installation had to always be started at the end part of a network. There is also a new option to use the current placement settings also for the first selected segment, instead of requiring a set distance between the end of the segment and the first containment element.
